At Austin Vet Hospital, we believe the best way to treat disease is to prevent it. Preventive care programs include physical examinations, diagnostic testing, parasite control, and vaccination schedules tailored to your pet’s particular lifestyle and risk factors (we won’t over- vaccinate your pet). We prefer to take time with you to discuss what is best for YOUR pet, rather than taking a “cookie cutter” approach. We strive to help you understand what you can do to keep your pet healthy, fit, and active for as many years as possible.

Diagnostic services

Your pet can’t tell us where it hurts, so it can be challenging to determine the underlying cause of their ailments. Vets rely on a good physical exam and diagnostic tests to identify problems and treat your pet. Diagnostic screening is used to evaluate the health of senior pets, pets with chronic diseases, or patients undergoing anesthesia. We have a full in-house laboratory, X-ray capabilities, including digital oral x-ray, video otoscopy equipment, EKG, and are able to offer your pets ultrasound exams and echocardiograms in cooperation with area specialists.

Surgery

Our doctors are experienced in a wide array of surgical procedures, from the familiar general surgery (spay/neuter) and growth removals, to C-sections, urinary tract surgery, surgery of the gastrointestinal tract and abdominal cavity and certain surgery of the eyes. We also work closely with board certified surgical specialists should your pet need an advanced surgical procedure. We will work on your behalf to guide you and your pet through the referral process.

Dentistry

Brushing twice daily and semi-annual cleanings are normal for all of us. What about our pets?

The reality is that our dogs and cats need dental care too. Dental procedures such as teeth cleaning, sealants and extractions are the same for dogs and cats as for humans. The only difference is that animals must be anesthetized to achieve their cooperation. Be assured that Austin Vet Hospital makes the safety of your pet our utmost priority and employs state-of-the-art anesthesia monitoring. Our ultrasonic scaler and high-speed polishing equipment will ensure that your pet goes home with pearly whites and minty-fresh breath!

Boarding

Travel with peace of mind knowing your pet will be cared for by our trained staff – we will give them all the love they need while you’re gone! If needed, we can give medications or feed a special diet. A veterinarian is always available should medical care be required. We have an exclusive feline-only room with dedicated cat boarding – no barking dogs here! On the other side of the hospital, we have extra large runs for extra large dogs, where they can bark to their heart’s content!

Microchipping

In use for nearly two decades, microchips have helped make lost pets a thing of the past. They can’t “slip out” of these! Placed just under the skin by a simple injection, microchipping is the best way to ensure your pet is always identified. At Austin Vet Hospital, we think every cat and dog should get a microchip.
